about
This powerful Sámi artist Mari Boine is sharing her newest, empowering single "Dánsso fal mu váhkaran" ("Keep on Dancing Váhkaran") with a beautiful music video. The track is taken from the new album of Mari Boine, which will be released later this year via By Norse Music.
On the song "Dánsso fal mu váhkaran" Mari Boine has collaborated with Kerttu Vuolab on the lyrics. The text encourage young Sami, indigenous girls to believe in themselves. Encourage them to free themselves from all that kept our ancestors down, to be proud of their heritage.
Mari comments: "I want this song to encourage people, especially our young people, to have faith in themselves. Encourage them to free themselves from all that kept our ancestors down. Encourage all of us to be proud of our heritage."
lyrics
Dánsso fal, mu váhkaran

Keep on dancing, váhkaran
Dance away the sadness
We know how they talk
But today, we won’t care
Keep on dancing, váhkaran
Dance away the sadness
We know they talk
But today, we don’t care
Dance the touch of áhkku’s hands
Lending you strength
Dance the echo of our laughter on a summer night
Memories of joy
Keep on dancing, váhkaran
Dance, my treasure
Keep on dancing
Through time
And time again
Šáva, my waterfall
My dear little river
Send away the sadness
Don’t let them impede you
My swift little stream
Bring out, breathe out the stories
That ask to be told
With your light feet
Trespass the border of time
Carry glad greetings
To the moments arriving
Allow your spirit to soar
Dear little arctic tern
With wide wings, embrace the skies
Through time
And time again
Through time
And time again
Keep on dancing, my dearest one
Become a playful wave
You need no permission
You are free from their chains
Dance to life the hidden notes
That áddjá could not play
They will sound and resound
Into all tomorrows
As the deepest ice
Begins to thaw
Dance the flow
Rejoicing
váhkaran is « my youngest child »
áhkku is grandmother
áddjá is grandfather
šáva is the sound of water rushing or falling
